Get the perfect summer skin from the inside out

Summer is officially here (although some days it doesn’t feel like it) so, it’s the perfect time to get that summer glow that everyone dreams about, and we don’t mean by using every soap or cream on the market.

Summer is officially here (although some days it doesn’t feel like it) so it’s the perfect time to get that summer glow that everyone dreams about, and we don’t mean by using every soap or cream on the market. Since we are what we eat, it’s no surprise that the two (diet and beauty) go hand-in-hand. Foods that promote a healthy, balanced lifestyle also promote youthful-looking skin and can help keep you looking radiant from the inside-out.

Foods to add to your diet for glowing skin
Vitamin C-Rich fruits and veg

That’s right; according to the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey there is a correlation between aging and diet. The largest discovery was between vitamin C intake and better-looking skin – meaning those who ate more fruits and veggies rich in vitamin C, such as citrus fruits and berries, had less dry and wrinkled skin.

Smoothie idea!

1 Cup Spinach, 1 Banana, 1 Orange, 3 Strawberries (frozen), 1 ½ Cups Water, 1 Tablespoon Chia Seeds, ½ Cup Ice Cubes

Healthy fats for skin moisture

In the same survey, researchers also discovered that higher intakes of healthy fats found in plants such as flax, walnuts, and canola oil – were associated with better skin appearance. Likewise, omega-3 fatty acids or those unsaturated fats found in fatty fish, like salmon, have been reported to reduce overall itching, scaling of the skin, and improved moisture content, which may play a role in wrinkle prevention.

Antioxidants for UV protection

We all know that SPF is very important for your skin; however, in addition to piling on the sun cream you may want to increase your intake of foods that offer natural protection.

Tomatoes, pink grapefruit, watermelon, papaya, and guava, are all foods which provide the important antioxidant, lycopene which has been linked to skin protection from UV damage.

Basically, for healthful looking skin, eat a plant-rich diet! Yum.
